Building on their long standing collaboration, Nuovi Fratelli (producers Wayne Dickson and Luigi Pasquini) have created a sun-soaked cover of Roy Ayers Ubiquity’s 1976 jazz/soul classic ‘Searching’ with Nimbus Sextet, one of the most exciting and innovative groups on the UK Jazz scene. The collective are joined on this record by vocalists Russell Stewart and lissappear, making for a soaring, euphoric track.
The special single mix featured here has been at the very top of the Jazz FM playlist for the last three weeks. With additional support from Gilles Peterson, Colin Curtis and Craig Charles who described Nimbus Sextet as a "supremely talented outfit" on BBC Radio 6 Music, ‘Searching’ shows the sextet drawing on their considerable talent to build a glorious hit that feels like the first rays of summer sun on the back of the neck.
With a production roster that includes the eurodisco of Change and the late folk-funk legend Linda Lewis, Nuovi Fratelli bring a depth of experience and a heartfelt love of classic neo-soul and jazz to the track.
Modern alt-soul vocalist Russell Stewart was shortlisted for BBC Introducing’s Scottish Act of The Year 2023 with his song ‘Midsummer’ gaining over 4 million streams. Lissa Chen Robertson aka lissappear is best known as the vocalist for the acclaimed neo-soul outfit Atom Eyes, who also provides violin on the track.
Their voices sit in a smooth, smudgy, soulful groove that makes the two singers feel like a full stage.
